What’s a Blue Jean Chef?

I’m a Blue Jean Chef. I am a professionally trained chef and I often wear a blue jean chef coat when I’m working. When I’m not working, you’ll usually find me in blue jeans. So, one way or another, I’m a Blue Jean Chef.
I have always loved food. Luckily for me, I’ve been able to turn this love of food into a career in cooking, and have spent the last ten years sharing this passion with friends, students, co-workers, and now television viewers.
I started my career working in restaurants, but instead of continuing behind the stovetop and behind the scenes, I’ve chosen to teach people how to cook both in person and on television, and to write about food, cooking, and dining.
I’d like to make others as comfortable in the kitchen as they are in their blue jeans. Here you’ll find my musings on food – memories from childhood, cooking tips and techniques, recipes, new culinary trends, and general writings on food. All of this will be down to earth, basic, casual and comfortable. I am, after all, in blue jeans.

Is it true that you are Trinidadian?

While I don’t have Trinidadian citizenship, my father and brother were born in Trinidad and my extended paternal family still lives there. My family has been in the West Indies since the 18th century. So, Trinidad definitely makes up my heritage. Thanks for visiting.

Meredith- hello! It’s Ruth Star here from HomeChef! I was flipping through the channels recently and saw your mug on QVC! imagine my surprize! Surprizingly I am back working at HomeChef and have been for about 4 years. We were recently bought and in addition to all that we used to and still do we are selling Viking Appliances too! SF, CM and SJ are all closed, I am at the Walnut Creek Store/School as GM and have moved up to Oakland! You look awesome, it was cool to see what you were up to! I googled you!

Just wanted to say Happy Anniversary on the “Q.” I’ve been cooking since I was seven, with my mom, grandma, and best friend’s mother (Italian food) and I love every aspect of cooking. I’ve been passing my skills onto my eight year old nephew. He loves watching you and Paula Dean. He really likes to cook. I enjoy watching you and wanted to thank you for sharing your tips.
