Easy Green Smoothie

Making a green smoothie is super easy with a powerful blend as long as you remember the 2:2:3 ratio of liquid to dark greens to fruit - that's 2 cups of liquid, 2 cups of dark greens and 3 cups of fruit.

You can customize the smoothie to suit your own tastes, making hundreds of different flavor combinations depending on what you choose for each category. In the recipe below, pick one of the different liquids, one of the dark greens and any combination of fruit that you like to make up 3 cups of fruit total. I like to vary my smoothies from day to day, adding different fruit to the mix, but my favorite combination is coconut water, 1 cup of pineapple, 1 whole pear, a chunk of ginger and sometimes some chia seeds if I have them on hand. Spin it around and enjoy!

This is a great formula for a smoothie. It has no banana in it!! Some of us are allergic to them; bananas seem to be in every smoothie recipe. An added note: if someone has a Vita-mix, there has to be an ice component or the smoothie will turn into hot soup! Thanks!!

  2. Great recipe. Yes, these ingredients need to all be very cold. Next time we will probably use some frozen fruit. We have a Vitamix. The flavor was excellent. Thanks Meredith.
